The original GoPro, with its ultra-compact size and ability to be attached to bike handles, helmets and cars making it the first true action camera. Now in a field with many competitors, GoPro is trying to differentiate themselves and stay on the cutting edge; this summer, they introduced QuikStory, an app which compiles a series of selected videos and automatically turns it into an edited video on your mobile device. The GoPro Hero6 is fully compatible with this feature, while adding faster performance and 4K video at 60 fps.

The Hero6 offers simple one-button control and touch zoom, which can be monitored on the 2-inch touch display that takes over the entire camera back. Voice control lets you change settings with verbal commands, while the touchscreen now has an improved user interface. Exposure control is available, as are RAW and HDR still photo capture.

The camera is rugged and waterproof down to 33 feet without a housing. It offers advanced wireless connectivity to GoPro accessories and works with GoPro sensors. It offers GPS with data overlay via mobile devices, and has faster wireless offload to the GoPro app thanks to 5GHz WiFi.

Image quality includes a choice of 4K60 or 1080p240 slow-motion video, a step up from the Hero5 Black. This is thanks to a new GP1 chip, which GoPro claims delivers improved image quality as well as better stabilization.

The audio capture part of the GoPro Hero6 Black has been reduced using wind noise reduction and immersive stereo audio, via the three onboard mics. Other features include HiLight tag, burst mode, video looping, night and time-lapse photography in 0.5, 1, 2,5, 10, 30 and 60-second intervals.

Pricing and availability for the GoPro Hero6 Black will be announced soon.
