Here is the photo shot straight into the sun retouched:
Step 1. Shoot straight into the sun but expose for the highlight.
Step 2. I do my usual retouch, shadows to +100, highlights -100, I set my white at +49 and blacks to -20:
Step 3. Very important, I set my white balance on shade and I play with the Temp and Tint to give this intense sun light feeling (you can use the Hue/Saturation to enhance even more this effect):
Step 4. Then I enable profile correction, remove chromatic aberration and reduce the noise.
Step 5. I cropped it, add some vignetting and here is the final result:
