There are a lot of lenses out there and it can be difficult to understand:
So let me explain you the basic:
The numbers on the lens indicate how much you can go from wide angle to zoom, it is calculated in millimeter.
Further is the end of the lens from the sensor more zoomed in you are on your subject.
There is two types of lenses (for the basic then you have special lens like macro..), the one that goes from a value to another value like 24-70 mm lens, we call them zoom lens and the one that have only one value like a 50 mm lens which is called a prime lens.
